In 2003 three sisters purchased a landmark, family owned fabric store that had been located in the Los Feliz Village for over thirty years and transformed it into a unique full service drapery salon. Clients can come in and select a drapery fabric from a selection gathered across the world.

Stacey, Amanda and Jillian are the partnering sisters and third generation sewers who are keeping the hand sewing tradition alive. While growing up in Wisconsin the girls spent hours at a time in fabric shops exploring the trims, fabrics and notions while their mother shopped for her latest creation.

In the late 90’s the girls’ mother insisted they learn how to sew. She awoke her heavy steel 1960’s Singer sewing machine and ignited a passion for sewing in each of the girls.

The sisters were mastering the art of couture when a girlfriend insisted that they sew drapery for her pied a terre.  From their dining room table the girls began sewing the Black Chiffon drapery. After a quick electric drill tutorial from a helpful Home Depot employee Stacey became the team’s first installer. As the girls gained momentum and word of mouth spread a for lease sign went up in the window of what is now Gypsy’s Palace.

The new owners have added their own touch to the 1200 square foot showroom by installing six foot chandeliers and draping the soaring ceilings in 400 yards of gold and ivory chiffon. Window treatment displays showcase their designs.

These days the owners oversee the meticulous measuring of the clients’ windows and the manufacturing of drapery that ultimately fits the window like finely tailored clothing.

The shop offers a wide selection of fabrics, drapery hardware custom made from hand forged wrought iron, hand blown glass, custom stained wood, Swarovski crystals and trimmings. The entire ensemble is then professionally installed in the client’s home.

gypsy's palace
Grandma and Mom

Gypsy’s Palace has welcomed any drapery challenge from a 20,000 square foot mansion to a local 200 seat movie theater.  Gypsy’s Palace continues to thrive through persistence and team work. The customer service and quality of goods is what would be expected of a family owned business built on generations of talent. The sisters agree that, “Nothing completes a beautifully decorated room or frames a gorgeous view like a luxurious pair of drapery.  From Dramatic Interlined Velvet to a Simple Chiffon Sheer.
