From the moment words like clean, velvet, texture and fun are introduced, we knew this project was going to be one of our favorites.
It all started when a Music Producer and his lovely wife found themselves in need of cutting edge drapery hardware to suit their contemporary Minotti furnishings.
Once we had an idea of our marching orders, it was almost impossible to stop the flow of ideas. Our excitement was palpable. All at once GP Drapery seemed to have opened Pandora’s box. The result was a one-of-a-kind drapery solution that’s truly a work of art.
Our call to action began with priorities like scale, function and proportion. The challenge: dress the home’s 8” projection moldings that surround each window with an acrylic rod capable of supporting heavy fabric blends.
And you know us. If it’s not beautiful it’s not worth doing.
To start, we brought in a bit of glam by plating our custom iron ring brackets in polished brass. Then, we redesigned each piece with balanced 2” x 2” square back plates and strong 3/8” posts. These ensured our brackets were capable of supporting the luxurious plum colored velvet drapery that extended past the enormous moldings.
Next, GP Drapery engineered crystal clear cast acrylic drapery rods with exterior fit brass end caps. A matching set of passing C rings ensured the textured, heavyweight drapery panels could easily glide along the window’s vast expanse for a full reveal.
The project continued with the installation of a transitional deep two pleat top tack. From there, every detail, down to the elegant ¾” floor bend and the heavy-handed 100% cotton drapery lining was planned in conjunction with the owner before implementation. The result is a stunning and unique custom drapery solution that enhances this Brentwood dream home’s existing charm.
In the end, this well-orchestrated installation was a challenge on many levels. However, we relished the ability to work with the large moldings, acrylic rodding and heavy drapery that made the project so unique. Now these Hollywood tastemakers are surrounded by drapery eye candy that’s subtle enough to fit in with the present decor, yet adds a defining presence.
